Awkward Moments

As I mentioned in my last post, attending a single's ward is...entertaining.
I made a new friend in my ward, who makes it his business to be the ward gossip. He, Jason, knows who is single, who is taken, and who really wants to be taken. At Home Evening, we were sitting next to each other and, after finding out the guy on his left was taken, he turned to me and began to ask me about my life. I said I hadn't really been asked on a date in a while- I'm afraid of boys and fine just as I am thank you very much. He immediately started going around the room asking me if I was attracted to this or that boy.
"Do you think Durfee's cute?"
Well, yes...?
"Especially with the v-neck?"
Of course. But he's not really my type...
"What is your type?"
I don't actually have a type, I just said that 'cause you're interrogating me.

So we move outside for the FHE lesson and a game called "The Cold Wind Blows." Basically the game is the group sits in a circle, with one person in the middle. The person in the middle says, "The cold wind blows on anyone who..." is wearing socks, has been out of the country, etc. Whoever the statement applies to has to get up and find a new seat.
Before the game begins, Jason leans over to me and, indicating the guy on his right, asks, "Do you think Austin is cute?" As he'd been asking me this all night, I just ignored him. He then leaned over, unbeknownst to me, and said to Austin, "Hannah thinks you're cute. She would totally go out with you." The game started and it was a lot of fun. Then the last round came. Jason was stuck in the middle and said, "The cold wind blows on anyone who would go on a date with Austin." I stood up and looked for another seat, and, as I ran to it, I realized I was the only girl standing- all the guys had stood up as a joke, and not one other female had been brave enough to admit they thought he was cute. Hmmm...awkward.
Many more wonderfully awkward Mormon moments to come, I'm certain.

Momma I'm a Big Girl Now

June was quite the month. First, I went to England. And I would talk about that, but I would suggest my few readers just look at my album on Facebook. Or ask me about it...it's kind of too much for a little blog post :)
So...I got back from England, tanner, wiser and 18. I spent the week after I got home doing a lot of job hunting in Rexburg... unsuccessful job hunting. By the end of the week, it became apparent that this Rexburg-thing wasn't going to work for me career-wise. So I packed up and moved to Provo two months early!
I've been here over ten days now and I'm...loving it? Ok...it's kind of hot...and I haven't been able to find a job despite a billion applications and a couple interviews...and my brain is melting with Disney Channel on all the time...Oh, and every one wants to get me married. Let me tell you a story.
I had an interview with the 2nd counselor in my new single's ward after filling out a new-ward-member sheet. We talk for a while and then he sees on the sheet that I play the cello. Then he starts talking about Hector Hernandez. "He plays the cello. Nice kid, very handsome, lives in the ward boundaries but goes to the Spanish ward, not sure why, his English is excellent, he hardly has an accent anymore. You know, maybe I could set you two up, a nice little date, you could play a cello duet or something! Very handsome man, Hector."
And every church activity has been the same. Yeah...this is gonna be fun.

Bloomability

Whew. My last month has been absolutely insane...and wonderful. So many ends...
I went to my last Madison High School play as a student. Everyone was crying, but I was doing just fine...that is until my dear Don Lockwood(Trevor Smith) took me on a trip down memory lane across the stage. Kathy Selden couldn't quite hold it together at that point.
I had my very last ballroom dance concert with Idaho Ballroom Academy. Also a tough conclusion to many years of work...I just hope to have the opportunity to dance in college.
I went to my first and last Prom with Trevor. I had an absolutely wonderful time. I tried to add pictures...it didn't work out...
My last choir and orchestra concert were much less sentimental than expected. People mostly seemed happy to be moving on :)
I graduated from seminary! but more importantly...
I FINALLY graduated from high school! Hallelujah! I can't express how happy I am to be done. Words truly cannot describe.
Unfortunately, I had to go back to the high school only a few hours after the all-night grad party ended for a Vocal Spectrum rehearsal. Happily, my last Spectrum concert was fantastic.
I officially ended my high school career with a senior recital. And now, I can move on.
BYU, Here I come!!!

How to creatively (or stupidly) ask someone to a dance!

I recently asked a friend to the last girl's choice dance of the year, the Spring Fling. The asking involved some raisins and a whole lot of ridiculousness. In order to show you how awesomely I did it, I will be taking you through a step-by-step process with visual images.
Step 0: Buy raisins
Step 1: Soak raisins in water...preferably warm

For heating water...obviously...

Step 2: Dissect the raisin...remove insides...

Step 3: Write letters of name on paper, cut letters out, and cover in tape

Step 4: Insert paper into raisin (I know, it looks disgusting right?!? What the vomiting raisin!)

Step 5: Close the raisin so it's all innocent looking again (Ha, innocent raisin, impossible.)

Step 6: (Repeat until you have however many letters you need...) Let the humiliated grapes dry!

And while you're waiting, might as well take some fun pictures...

Eventually, we proceed to step 7: Assemble asking items, after extensive research.

On the bottom of the poster it says, "If you're hungry for my identity, have some raisins." The 12 raisins were in a bag at the bottom of the cup of raisins...
And then comes the oh-so-sneaky delivery!

Um...yeah.

SO, that's a debatably awesome way to ask someone to a dance! Yay me!
For those of you wondering, he did say yes :)

There will probably be more to come on the actual date...but I thought this was fun too... :P

Oops.

I've been sitting here, wanting to write something about my crazy month...or really something about anything... I just kept typing things, and then deleting them. And then I somehow accidentally published the post. "View Post!" Ok...On March 26, what does Hannah have to say? Apparently nothing.
But stay! I have much to say! Anything of importance? Probably not.
Well, I have begun my final trimester of high school. Government, orchestra, choir, English, and math. So far only one of my teachers hates me, so that's good...
I had several dance performances in the past month. And my team's swing routine took first in our division at the main competition of the year. So that makes us feel all cool.
I gave a talk in church that I was told was good...I don't like giving talks...But I talked about being an example to the world through the light of Christ we receive. See D&C 50:24, 84:46 and Alma 19:6...
I had my last spring choir concert...and participated in District Solo for the last time (Thank the heavens above!)
I went to my last General Young Women's Broadcast, or at least my last one as a young woman. The 13th Article of Faith was very focused on, with the first three talks focused on being honest and true, benevolent, and virtuous. Pres. Eyring talked a lot about hope and light, which was of great interest me, having just given my talk a couple weeks ago. Twas a great meeting.
I think that's probably enough rambling for now. I love anyone who's managed to endure all of this uninteresting post.

It's Coming.

That's right. The most terrible time of the year is coming quickly; the most dreaded day will be here soon.
Valentine's Day.
Oh yes. The day made just to torture me and other single females all over the world. Where the heck did this day come from anyway? Well, I've been doing some research, and to the best of my knowledge (and feel free to correct me on any of the following information), no one really evens knows who the original "St. Valentine" was...it seems there were a few Christian martyrs named Valentine, so Pope Gelasius I established St. Valentine's Day on February 14. Where did the torturous lovey-dovey, romantic part of it come from then? Well, it seems when my good friend Geoffrey Chaucer wrote Parlement of Foules he decided to throw in a little line about Valentine's Day being the day "when every bird cometh there to choose his mate," and thus came forth the idea that Valentine's Day was for lovers. Shakespeare grabbed the idea a few hundred years later and romanticized it, and then it just got commercialized and you have all these girls getting flowers and chocolates and cards...
Sigh.
If you want me during the next week, I'll be in my room with ice cream and a good romance novel. Or perhaps watching a chick flick. Or maybe burning my Chaucer bobblehead...
